I have the Pro version and after being driven nuts by apps and folders, there is a solution.
I did a long press on the folder, and got a pop-up of apps to add. Heckuva lot easier, and didn't see this posted anywhere, even in FAQ on Apex home site.

Someone with free version want to try?

Behavior depends on whether the folder is on a homescreen or in the app drawer. I'm guessing you are describing the former, not the latter. I have Pro, but get the popup menu for:

Remove
Edit
Gestures
Bulk add

Bulk add is the list that you described. Yours went directly there on a long-press?

No, that was the pop-up.
I asked a couple of months ago and no one had this as an answer. Chasing icons and folders were still bothering a few.
I went searching for an answer to chasing icons, and nowhere did I see anything about a long press on the folder.
Not even on the Apex site in the FAQs. No one in other fora mentioned it, either.
