G2 and Memory

I'm using Taskiller and when I close all apps it shows 39mb of available memory. I was wondering if anyone can tell me what the available memory is when the phone is activated for the first time and if this is a normal amount of memory available? I have a lot of apps installed and wonder if my phone would run faster if I removed some.

If you are running a MyTouch3G or whatever has 192mb of RAM, it looks fine.

I use around 62MB of RAM after killing all tasks (other than touch input), but I can't tell you how much is available since I have the 288MB model

Sorry. I have a My Touch G2 and it's showing 50mb of usable memory after removing a text to speech app. So 50mb is low?
