G4. Problems with Emails and contacts edit

Hi to all.
Got my G4 2 years ago and loved it. I'm with EE.
When my contract was up 2 months ago I wanted to keep it and just get a sim card.
Trouble was, it was nearly as expensive as getting a new phone contract, so I got a cheap and cheerful K8 from EE.
The other day I decided to go back to the G4 and changed everything over. I had an issue with emails on the K8, which refused to go back more than about a week to older emails. And I couldn't set individual caller ringtones, both of which were fine on the G4.
I'm with Virgin and use their email. They wrote a couple of weeks ago saying we had to change our settings on android email by the end of April from pop3 to imap. The K8 wouldn't accept imap. I figured this was why the old emails wouldn't load.
The G4 loaded old emails fine at first, but then stopped. I'd already changed it to imap before this happened. I was altering a few other settings as I'd done a factory reset when I got the K8.
Last night I was trying to assign contact ringtones, as I had when last using the G4. I open edit on a contact and there's nothing there about ringtones, just the name and number to edit. Nothing else, greyed out or otherwise.

So, anybody have any clues why my old emails don't show up and why I can't assign ringtones?
I've spent hours googling and watching videos but nothing.
Thanks for any help you can give.
regards,
Paul

Can't say why you can't assign ringtones to contacts if you could before, but the old emails. If you had your phone setup as POP3 more then likely once you retrieved them they were deleted from the server.

At this point I'm going to suggest you give some serious thought into migrating away from Virgin's email service and instead start relying on a third-party one like Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo Mail, etc.

When you're using a carrier's email service unless there's a specific statement that you can always keep your email service no matter if you're using that carrier or not, you risk losing a lot of previously saved info when you stop using that carrier. To switch to a different carrier it's on you to manually export your data, with the added problem being if the saved data isn't retained in the proper file types there may or may not be issues when importing to your new carrier's service.

But if you were to just start using a service like Gmail as an example, your emails, your calendar(s), and your contacts are seamlessly transferable from one carrier to another as you don't have to worry about managing/moving data. All your info is not tied to the carrier you're currently using, since it's instead a part of your online account. You then just need to disable access to your previous carrier's device and then enable access to your new carrier's device.

Thanks to both for the replies.

The emails were fine as I said when I changed to Imap at first. They only stopped appearing once I messed with the settings. I just can't figure out which setting caused it.
Emails don't get wiped from the server with Virgin, they're there for years. On my laptop I can go back to 2010. I could on my phone.
I opened a Gmail account a few months ago. I was changing to Sky, but then Virgin made me an offer I couldn't refuse. It was a pain going through emails deciding which to have sent to both Gmail and Virgin. The Gmail only goes back to December when I opened the account. I did it in stints of an hour, but was glad when Virgin upped my offer.
I'll contact EE. Hopefully they'll know what I've done. Plus I really would like to get my ringtones back.
Thanks again.
Paul
