Help Galaxy Ace Synch' with Outlook

I know that this is a topic that has been discussed extensively before, but I haven't been able to find QUITE the answer to my query in any previous posts.

I'm trying to synch' to Outlook using Kies. It seems to be a known problem, but I'd like to persevere because as far as I can see there's no other app' that does quite what I want which is to synch' Outlook notes, calendar and contacts to the 'phone. I'm using Symtasks for the tasks which seems pretty good.

I'm no IT Man, but I've tried everything obvious: un and re installing Kies, re booting the 'phone, the connection troubleshooting feature within Kies, latest firmware/software etc. - all to no avail.

Kies just doesn't recognise the 'phone. I know that the 'phone is connected as I can see the files on it OK.

It might be worth mentioning that I have re assigned the drive letter ("A" as it happens) of the 'phone - I wonder if that might have some effect?

I realise that this is kinda using the thing outside of its design parameters in as much as synch'ing to Google is better but for various reasons that just doesn't suit me. Further, if Samsung SAY Kies works with Outlook, then it should, eh?

I'm running Windows XP Pro SP 3 on my laptop.

Apologies for the rambling post, but I wanted to give out as much info' as possible.

Any advice/suggestions would be much appreciated. Including: if there's an alternative to Kies.

Thanks in advance,
Jerry.
