Help Galaxy J1 mini proximity sensor - does it have one?

My parents have recently bought one. It seems ok, other than no flash or the camera; what's that about?

When making a call, this thing locks the display after about a second and needs a double tap to access the keypad (except when on speaker), clearly to prevent your cheek activating things. Don't most phones do this with a proximity sensor?

Apparently the J1 mini doesn't have an LED flash. Rather unusual, because most phones do. But that's something that Samsung has apparently omitted on this device.

I think the screen should come back on by itself if you move it away from your ear during a phone call, that's what the proximity sensor is for. Doesn't sound right that you have to double tap it. Perhaps someone else has a J1 mini and can confirm this behaviour.
