I have some unwanted photos in my gallery, I can't delete them, how can I do this?

I have a Note 10.1 as well, so I went into the gallery and tried it out. I was able to delete pictures two different ways.
The first, I long pressed on a thumbnail and it marked that picture with a check and brought up a menu with several options, delete being one of them. I was able to put check marks on several other pictures and delete them all at once by pressing the trash can button.
The second method is to tap on the tumbnail of the picture you want to delete. It makes the picture full screen. Then you tap anywhere on screen and the top and bottom bars appear. On the top bar is the trash can for deleting.
