Galaxy Note 7 being disconnected from networks

I feel sure that other countries and carriers will follow suit at Samsung's insistence.

So, if you have not exchanged your Samsung Galaxy Note 7, you could be left with a very expensive wi-fi tablet, doorstop or beer coaster.

No, it's still not mandatory. That's a sure sign of the explanation for what this all is still mainly about. Damage control. For Samsung. Whatever the cause of the meltdown problem is/was, it's clear from the lack of additional headlines being made by it that it's not affecting many or any more of the devices out there. If they want to make real progress on putting the controversy and concerns behind them, they'd be well advised to fully identify the cause of the issue, once and for all. An answer to that of 'they may never know' will not do for us, nor them. How well will they do with selling a new product if they don't tell the story of how the problem in the old one is for sure not going to trouble anyone with the new one, at all? This has all but stopped being an issue of the actual problem, and the hazards that accompany it, and all about executives at Samsung and governments/agencies grappling with how to rid themselves of any more headaches and personal wealth/power threats from it.

Might the reason for the reduced number of incidents simply be because the majority of sane Note 7 users have now divested themselves of their handsets.

The last reports were that Samsung had 100+ technicians, round the clock, looking into this. Let us not forget that they too have a vested interest in finding out exactly what caused this issue, if only for the reason that the same thing should never, ever, happen again in future. Something that would damage Samsung beyond repair.

In the early days, the Note 7 explosions, fires, etc; were a tragedy. People like myself felt sorry and were concerned for owners of this phone. However, in the months since then and in light of the publicity and warnings that have been issued worldwide, as well as the highly publicised trade-in and refund programmes offered by Samsung and carriers, we are now approaching the stage whereby, with the moves taken in New Zealand and possibly worldwide to cut these phones off, anyone experiencing a Note 7 issue in the not too distant future will just be considered as a prime candidate for the Darwin Awards. :rolleyes:

But that's just it. Ask me how much I care what you think, regarding that matter? ;)
 
It is not just about what I think. It is about the perception of any future Note 7 incidents worldwide. With all the publicity surrounding the Note 7 issue, the refunds, exchanges and offers as well as airlines banning them and carriers starting to disconnect them, then anyone who is still owning and using one and who is injured, or causes others to be injured, in future, will not be thought of as a tragic victim of Samsung but rather, portrayed in the media and the minds of others, as a dumbass that did not heed advice.

Perhaps there is a very compelling reason why a few people may want to carry on attempting to use a very expensive phone that is banned on most airlines, that will never receive updates, enhancements, security and bugfixes and could be rendered useless as a phone at any time... not to mention its capability, without warning, to cause damage and maim or kill the user, their family and their friends... but I cannot for the life of me, think what that good reason could be. :confused:
