Galaxy Note 7 hotspot name freaks out a flight

Beg to differ, but this was as funny as someone who makes a crank call to 911.....

Disappointed the story didn't finish with a happy ending about how he was going to spend Christmas in a jail cell:mad:

As the story said, it may not have been intentional. If he did a backup of his WiFi settings on his note 7 and then restored them on his replacement phone, couldn't it have transferred his hotspot SSID also?

Well, so far nobody else on this thread thought that was a possibility....

..... still not a cool thing to do on a flight at all...:mad:

that is an idea, but i think it was more likely the same as me renaming my WiFi router to "FBI Drug Enforcement Bureau"

I have been to a few places where WiFi signals showed up with prank names like that. i just ignore them after a giggle or two.

You know that if the guy was actually using the Hotspot, he would know that name was showing up.
pure prank that most likely backfired on him. IMO...

I stopped using "FBI Surveillance van" for my router's SSID a while ago because everybody else in my neighborhood started using it or something similar. LOL

I agree it was probably a prank, but I also see how it could have happened unintentionally. The guy knew he was flying and may have turned his Note in for a replacement at the last minute and used one of the "transfer settings" options, it could have set his SSID the same as his Note. At least, that's the story I'd stick with if my "joke" caused the flap that this guys did! :)
