Galaxy Note 8 BestBuy Question

Dyno S

Newbie
Anyone here know if (ANY) of the carrier options for the Galaxy Note 8 purchased from BestBuy come Unlocked? I know they have the Unlocked version but from things I heard is ANY phone you get from BestBuy regardless of the carrier you select comes factory unlocked, is this true? I'm wanting a Deep Sea Blue Note 8 and looking to upgrade an AT&T line but if the device is not factory unlocked it would kind of take away from things as I would prefer an unlocked version but can't dish out the full amount and would rather use an upgrade I have.

I think what you are going to find is that if you get a subsidized phone, it's going to be locked. If you want an unlocked phone it will be (close to) full price.

Now, I've been an AT&T customer for many years and keep my account up to date and in good standing. I have never had a problem with AT&T unlocking my phones even while under contract. They've been very generous (with me). I simply explain that I travel frequently and I like to use local carriers/sims while abroad. Sometimes it takes two or three calls, but they have always given me the unlock code.

yeah I know all of that stuff but to simplify my question better, if I order a carrier specific phone will it be unlocked? I know the common answer to this is NO because its specific to the carrier you selected. Now this being said the Verizon phones are ALL unlocked, doesn't matter if its an iPhone or an Android, no matter where you purchased it. I thought or figured some knew or have known of this here.

That being said it was also said, that this also goes for phones purchased on BestBuy.com REGARDLESS if you had chose a carrier other than Verizon, that the phone for example if AT&T, T-Mo, or Sprint, that those devices if purchased from BestBuy that there unlocked, people have said this is the way BestBuy gets their devices directly from the factory (unlocked). I was seeking confirmation of this in my first post. I know a carrier can unlock it but I really don't want carrier bloatware or carrier logo on startup of the device.

I would be surprised if Best Buy had a pile of unlocked phones in the back room that they pulled out regardless of carrier or contract. I suspect that either your information is incorrect or they are drawing a conclusion from an employee mistake (giving them an unlocked phone when they shoulda given them the locked carrier version.)

Of course anything's possible.

with all due respect op,

your posts are not clear and people are simply trying to answer you as best as possible with how you are wording your posts.

since your answer is not being answered the way you want it, have you attempted to contact best buy directly?

an ATT phone can be bought unlocked right now, today. if you want to buy it on a plan or whatever deal you have going on through ATT you want to use, consider it being LOCKED.

I just got my NOTE8 @best Buy the box doesn't have any carrier specific marking nor does the phone. it doesn't boot with a carrier splash like my Note 5 . and no carrier bloat ware, only Samsung app I got mine on sprint, and Sprint SIM was pre-installed. SM-950U
