Help Galaxy S update question

capersHTC

Newbie
Greeting to you all,

I plugged my wifes Galaxy S into the PC (Kies) to see if there are any firmware updates available ........ and there are.

Before I begin the process I have a question.
My wife has many Apps & Games that she has been playing for sometime now (i.e. Angry Birds, Bubble Blast etc.)

If I run the firmware update I expect that the Apps with be wiped - is this correct? :(
If this is the case, is there any way I can save the App data (i.e. user data, levels acheived while playing etc.) so that she doesn't have to start the games from level one again?

Thanks in advance,

When you say yours have always been fine, can I ask you to expand a little on that please cuz if I get this wrong and loose everything, SWMBO won't be best pleased.

Do the apps remain in the phones ram memory?
Does the app data remain with the app or is it lost too?

Same questions here...I have my phone dialed in (no pun intended) and really don't want to organize all my pages/download all my apps from the market again. I will if I have to I guess but really didn't want to.

I wish this OS update was like downloading the new version of firefox on a PC or something :)

Since I've owned my phone, it has had the firmware updated twice. From 2.1 to 2.2 and then to 2.2.1. I've backed up my contact details even though they are all saved to the sim card. I've never however bothered to back up any apps and on completion of the update, everything has been present and correct. However, if you wish not to incur the wrath of swmbo if there was an unexpected app losing related incident, perhaps you should just go into the app manger and move the apps to the sd card if they are not already there.
:D

has anyone encounreded any problems updating their firmware?
I don't know why but I am a little nervious about doing this!

i had issues with kies losing the connection to my phone after a partial upgrade... and bricked the handset.... if u can get into download/recovery modes i would use odin... much more reliable, i've found.
