Help Galaxy S upgrade to Gingerbread - Kies gets stuck

I am trying to upgrade my new SGS but Kies gets stuck in "Preparing firmware upgrade components" screen. Any help? Below the screen shot where Kies doesnt respond there after.

same problem with my samsung galaxy ace too. how are you connected to the internet?

Have you tried downloading the firmware from a mirrorsite and sideloading it? Or copying to the SD card and rebooting to recovery mode then select install zip from sd card?
