Galaxy S3 and Cable modem SBG6580

Hello! My family is now on it's 3rd brand new cable modem (SBG6580) since Dec 26th, 2013. We keep losing internet service not only wirelessly, but the wired connection from the modem to the back of the pc. What does this have to do with Android, you ask? The other day, I was watching videos on my Galaxy S3 and every time I went to watch the one video (not XXX), it seemed to knock out internet service for the whole house. The cable company has checked all of the signals, noise, etc and everything appears to be fine. They also ran all new cable from the pole to the house.

Has anyone else out there experience any issued where it seems like your phone is somehow knocking out your cable modem?

Thanks!!
Brian

Is it every video you try to watch or just "that one video"?

Is the modem also your router that is providing the WiFi? I have experienced a router that started having problems with high bandwidth things like video streaming and would crap out and knock out my connection, forcing me to reboot it. I ended up replacing the router.

Yes, the SBG6580 is a combination cable modem/wifi router all-in-one. And it wasn't just with that one video. It has happened with other videos as well. But we've also lost the connection even when I wasn't watching anything. Didn't even have my phone on me. I was just curious as to whether it was a possibility that my phone could be knocking out the internet service.

Thanks, Codegerm!

Okay, well I doubt your phone is causing the issue. Check the unit's indicator lights to see if it is losing its connection to your provider. Many routers have a "self healing" function, that is basically a automated scheduled self reboot. You could set that to help (best if set to a time when everyone is asleep so as not to drop anyone off while it does it).

Update - our modem/router has been behaving "ok" for the last couple of weeks. However, our niece was here last night and I was working from home on the hard-wired pc. All of a sudden, I lost connectivity and the wifi dropped as well. Right as I was about to ask my wife if she lost the wifi on her iPhone, our niece yelled down to me that she had just got on the wifi with her Samsung and *poof*, there goes the internet.
