Help Galaxy S3 backing up apps (not rooted)

I'm having problems backing up my apps.

Kies just seems to hang, saying it's 'preparing' and I have left it for over 7 hours.

I understand you can backup easily if you root the phone, this is not an option as I do not wish to void warranty until the year is up.

So is there another way or how do I get Kies to work?

Thanks.

I have moved your question to the Samsung Galaxy S3 forum. People with the same model phone will be the best equipped to answer you.

You should be able to backup your phone Inder settings/privacy.
Thanks for the response, I cannot find a privacy setting.

Settings / backup - there's a feature to backup app data (implying to me not the full app but settings, saves etc!) also it backs up to Google server which means downloading thus I may as well search and download the apps again.

Backup of all full app's to pc and microsd is what I'm after.

Thanks, I appreciate the help though perhaps the beuracurscy (however it's spelt!) of been an administrator and cleaning up the forum is leading to the lack of responses.
I suspect this is software related not hardware related.
To be fair to you I should have put, 'android 4.0.4' on the title as well.
Sgs3 is hardware
Android is software.

The problem may be linked to sgs3 but overall its software query.

Unless you root, there's not much you can do, unfortunately.

Thanks for the response, Be just my luck to root the phone and something happens, so I shall wait till the warranty expires!
Find it amusing, all those arguments people are having over ios and android; where android is perceived to be more open is not true.

Back the 80s you could backup things on tape and disk with ease - without restriction.

you can install app from anywhere doesnt have to be the playstore, thats pretty open right there.

you can backup they apps you have on the device so you can re-install them from the SD card, thats pretty good.

you cant save your game state so if you made it to level 15 of angry pigs you have to start over in the even of a factory reset.

i had an iphone but i couldnt remember doing any of these things on it

You must try My backup pro. No need to Root and does a pretty neat job.

Android is much more open, but it lacks of some basic features, I hope Google implements native apps backup soon.
You can backup via adb with ICS.

My own phone runs GB, so I can't test this, and of course Samsung modify the software on their phones so I cannot say how well it works with the S3. But while it doesn't have much publicity it does exist - google "adb backup" for info.

Interesting....

ADB Backup still has some issues, as of now, a Nandroid backup (+ TBU) is much better than that. What would be quite handy is backing up apps data just like in iOS, and that isn't possible for now. Still, it isn't a problem for me, I can't live without root, so there you go.
