Help Galaxy S3 battery life sucks

Hey gang,

I purchased a used Galaxy S3 a few days back, and the battery life is horrible. It seems that I lose about 8-9% per hour even with the phone just sitting there and not doing anything except maybe sending 2-3 texts. Background apps are off, and screen brightness is about 65%, when it is in use.

Is this normal, or should I buy a new battery to see if it makes a difference? I know you can get extended battery packs for it, but I don't really want to do that because I like the Ballistic case I have that will not accommodate an extended battery. I haven't seen an extended battery case that offers all-over-the-phone protection yet.

Thanks

The problem with a used phone is that you have NO idea how the previous owner took care of the battery or the lack thereof. They may have done tons of things that diminish the life and performance of the battery and you have no way of knowing. I'd say the cheapest and easiest solution is to just buy another new battery and keep this one as a back up!

Understood. Thanks. It's like a used car. They may have run it into the ground before you got it. I just didn't know if this was normal behavior, because I've seen a lot of complaints online about S3 battery life. But this seems a bit ridiculous. It can't even get me through a full day at the office with minimal use.

Thanks for the tip.

I can see you are no stranger to the used car market for sure, lol, but yes, you got my point. And while I have heard a lot of complaints of S3 AND S4 battery life, I'd say that yours is sub-par for sure! Good luck, Vin.

It can't hurt to try the new battery.

But, Poor battery life is not always the fault of the battery

Did you factory reset the phone when you got it? Lingering apps and settings can have impact on battery, not to mention your privacy.

Gather some info. After a period of idle time, Go to settings/note/b battery and post screenshot what's using your battery. Then tap on graph to get alternate info below including screen/sleep and post another screenshot. Phone awake for long periods with screen off?
