Help Galaxy S3 & Kies. Help needed please

Hi,
I am having a major headache with my S3 and Kies on my mac.
I have to take my phone back tomorrow or Tuesday for an agreed exchange due to stuck pixels. In the meantime I need to back up my phone settings etc. using Kies. Obviously some stuff will be synced with Google but Kies takes care of settings etc. I believe.
Anyhow to my problem. I have Kies installed on my mac and after much messing around for considerable hours today, I can't for the life of me get the buttons / tabs to show up for sync, backup etc at the top of the page.
I have attached a screenshot below showing what I mean. I have also attached one of what it should look like.
If anyone can help on here I would massively appreciate it as this is driving me nuts. I am using latest version (I think) downloaded from samsung site and am running latest version of Lion.
Many thanks for any help here. I've run out of ideas :(

I know its showing a device connected but it's not acting like it giving you access to the other tabs.

All I could suggest would be to uninstall and reinstall and try unhooking it and rehooking it up a few times.

I have already tried your suggestions many times. I am absolutely stumped with this one. Can't remember the last time I had any software probs on any device or computer. Been years. Anyhow, thanks for taking the time to reply.
Anyone else got any ideas?

Pretty much given up on this now. I've wasted so many hours with Kies and I cant for the life of me get the tab's / buttons appear at the top of the software :(
 
Did you get anywhere with this? I had issues using Kies and Android File Transfer app (mac)

I found I could only use one or the other at a time because one of them wanted to use the setup for media device (mtp) and the other the camera (ptp). Using the one prevented the other from working.

These were accessed from the pull down menu. I wonder if it is anything to do with that?

Hi,
Yup, tried switching the usb connection in the pull down menu.
I do use AFT and that works fine.
In fact Kies works to some extent. It sees the phone and I have transferred some photos from itunes with it that were on my iphone.
But I still can't for the life of me figure out why I do not have the buttons at the top of the Kies software for Sync, backup etc.
I installed it on the work pc this morning and it worked perfectly. Looked just the same as my second screen shot in my first post. Other people I know with macs have it installed as well without issue. I just don't know what's wrong with my installation. Re-installed several times now and even used time machine to go back to last week and installed it but still the same.
If anyone can help on this I would be extremely greatful.

Just thought I'd bump this one in case anyone missed it who may know the answer. I still have the problem shown in the pics at the top of this thread.

Did you get offered the update today?

Okay, as a slight update here, my hubby has the same as me, the S3, but he has a macbook (I have a mini)
He had no tabs on the main window and only 2 in the preferences (missing the device tab). He logged into a fresh profile and despite getting a "possibly no internet" warning he did have the tabs. He had tried disabling Hands Off in case it was that but it made no difference. All he had running in the new profile was Kies.

Do you mean he created a new profile on his mac, in other words a new user account?
 
Yes, that's right. In the end tho he fired up the dreaded Windows machine and installed it on there. It also fully imported all his old text messages which it didn't on the Mac, even tho it said it had.
 
I used Kies for the first time last night on my Win7 computer with no problems. Did a backup and imported a lot of things from iTunes.
 
This is really doing my head in now. I created a new account within Lion as a test. Installed Kies onto that account and it worked perfectly. All tabs appearing etc.
Having this second account on the mac is not what I want though.
So I uninstalled it on the main account. I even downloaded one of those uninstaller progs off the net. Run that and it found a few files that were left behind. Re-installed Kies on main account and it's still the same as my first pic in my first post above. No tabs.
I just don't get it. Anyone got any clues on this please?

SORTED AT LAST :D
I created a new user account and set it as an admin account. Installed Kies on that account which also installed it onto the main account.
Switched to the main account and launched Kies and it works. Deleted temp account. Kies still work in main account. Hoorah :D
I'll stop pestering you all....for now ;)
