Galaxy S3 Mobile Messed Up!

Yzn

Newbie
Hello guys,
I know this looks a lot like many other topics that solve this issue, but mine is a bit different.

Note: This S3 had CynogenMod on it.

Let's do this visually:

If I keep holding the power button, like usual to put the mobile ON, this shows up:

If I press: POWER + HOME + DOWN VOLUME BUTTON:

If I press: POWER + HOME + UP VOLUME BUTTON:

3qv5o48az

Then, I press the VOLUME UP BUTTON again:

STUCK THERE!

I would really like to know why this happened and how to solve it. I have files and photos I need.
I didn't download any new app before this happened, it just had CynogenMod on since last year and now overnight I woke up to find this.

Thanks in advance.

If you hold power + volume up + home till phone vibrates and you see blue writing, "Recovery Booting " in upper left of screen, then release power button while continuing to hold the other two, that should take you to the custom recovery installed on the phone.
If you can get into recovery, try wiping the cache partition and reboot.

Looking at your first pic, normal power up, is that as far as it will boot? Stuck on the boot logo?

Hey my mobile doesn't actually vibrate and the photo above is all that shows up on my phone when I press those three buttons.

Yes it does not even get to the Samsung logo page. Only the name like in the photo.

Thanks for your reply, what's your thoughts?

With it not able to do normal boot and not able to access recovery, I'm thinking hardware issue, motherboard.
With you having data on phone you don't want to loose makes things a little more complicated.
First thing I would try is to flash a custom recovery. That shouldn't wipe data and if it flashes successfully, you may get it to boot.
Did you have CWM or TWRP recovery?

I dont know how to flash a custom recovery. Also I am not sure what is CWM or TWRP recovery. I had a normal recovery.

Can you please link me to a way to flash recovery?

CWM, no longer supported and TWRP are the most common custom recoveries . CM has their on custom recovery that works with their Nightly rom builds. Custom Recovery is needed to flash a custom ROM so your phone should have had one.
You can get TWRP here. Download the tar file from the top to PC.
https://dl.twrp.me/i9300/

You will need Odin to flash it. Download version 3.10.7 from here and install on PC.

If you don't have Samsung USB Drivers installed already on pc, download Kies3 and install on pc.comes with all drivers.
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/app/kies

When you get ready, open and run Odin.
Open the options tab and uncheck Auto Reboot.
Put phone in download mode and connect to PC. Should show a blue box with active comport number and show connected in box on lower left of screen.

Select the AP tab and find the TWRP tar file you downloaded and select it.
When Odin is satisfied you can select start to begin the flash.
If all goes well you will get a green box above the comport with PASS.
Unplug phone from PC and remove battery.
Wait a few seconds and replace battery then use the button combo to boot into recovery I posted earlier. In TWRP, select Wipe - Advanced and only check Cache. Uncheck everything else.
Swipe the arrow at the bottom then select Reboot -System.

If Odin fails, probably" Nand Write Fail", not much else to try with the hope of salvaging data.
Next would be whole firmware flash back to stock to see if phone is salvageable.

what other suggestions do you have?

If you have the drivers installed on PC you can try a different USB cable. The original Samsung cable works best.
If using a laptop, try a different 2.0 port.
If a desk top, try USB port on back of PC.
If you can't get it to connect to Odin, there is not anything else that I know of.

the sound of the successful windows plug in sound comes on but nothing shows up on odin?

just to note, my s3 doesn't even get to the logo screen, it stops on the first Samsung I9300 text screen

Do you get any pop-ups on pc like "unknown Android device" or Android composite device?
I'm not very good at troubleshooting pc connection issues.

not really but i noticed whenever i connect it it shows in the device manager: gadget serial with a yellow triangle next to it.
apparently i cant update the driver on it nor does it recognize it when i downloaded s3 usb drivers from some tech website ;S

You should have got all the Samsung USB drivers when you installed Kies3. If you installed drivers from a different site, you could uninstall them and run Kies3 installation again.

My idea is that if you can successfully install TWRP and a cache wipe and reboot doesn't get it to boot, you might be able to dirty flash Cyanogenmod and not wipe out your data if you remember which CM version you were running.

Aha. Well that require odin?

ODIN and Kies don't play well together.
I would suggest deleting Kies, leaving the drivers, rebooting the computer, and try to connect the phone whilst in download mode so ODIN can recognize it.

The pic here you link here is what should stay on the phone until ODIN is done:

If you ever get in that mode and want to get out of it, simply pull the battery, then reinsert the battery and power up.

Now, if I read correctly, you are trying to get ODIN to recognize the phone to flash TWRP correct? :)

From what I can tell looking at the images in the first post and what happens when trying to boot into recovery, there is no recovery. Not getting the vibration either. Not sure if the bootloader or motherboard is trashed.

Volume up/home/power should get him into recovery..sometimes it can be tricky.
Not sure why that button combo is getting him into download mode. If the bootloader or motherboard were borked, I don't think he would even see the splash screen (where is says, "Samsung S3 GT-i9300") no?

Another idea to try if flashing TWRP is not working, is to use ADB to reboot into recovery.....assuming the "usb debugging" option was ticked to begin with.

Well this is an interesting problem. The only thing I might suggest is try removing the battery (and if you have a SIM card, remove that too), leave the battery out for a couple of minutes, then put the battery back in (leaving the SIM out for now) and try to boot up into Recovery Mode again.

originally the SIM/MEMORY were out all the time and whenever I try to get in recovery I get that screen that I linked in first post.

I actually took the mobile to three mobile shops and they all gave up telling me its trashed. but again who said they're android experts.

that image says it but the problem is ODIN doesn't show a blue box with the numbers on it, i mean it doesn't show any signs of it being connected ...

i'm going to try the way you said now and let's see if it works :)

thanks all for your contributions !
