Galaxy S3 or HTC One x or Wait for next batch of phones

I'm currently in the market for a new phone and I'm considering a Samsung Galaxy S3 or the HTC One X. I'm leaning towards the Galaxy S3 because of the expandable memory and the removable battery even though I love HTC sense. Currently I've still got my HTC Hero but I'm retiring it.

Should I go for the Galaxy S3 or should I wait for the next batch of new phones to come on the market or could I be waiting a while.

Cheers

You'd be waiting for a while I'd think. Samsung Galaxy S launches every may, so SIV would be May next year. HTC launches its flagships around March. The only big name phones that are yet to arrive would be iPhone 5 next month and the new Nexus phone on November.

The new nexus phone(s) will be out before the end of November, as usual. It might be worth waiting for that to happen.

As for the debate between the S3 and One X, I would go with the One X personally.

If you used an HTC phone before and like it, then you may be disappointed in the SGS3. I had an HTC Desire Z before and after using the SGS3 for almost a month, I find that there are a number of things that I miss about HTC Sense. Nothing that is a deal breaker, but just some nice to haves that are built-in instead of having to find alternatives.

Moved from Sensation to the S3. Thought about the One X, but no SD card as far as I can remember.
However even the though the S3 has an SD card, samsung does not allow you to move apps over to it. You can move music, backups, photos etc.

Find the battery on the S3 is much better than my sensation was, and like it very much to be honest.

I have the HTC EVO 4G LTE the battery life is amazing. I was skeptical but now happy with battery performance.

I was out and about taking pictures, playing music, posting to Google+, posting to twitter, texting, taking and placing calls, using google maps features, surfing the internet, and playing games on two consecutive days from 7am to approximately 8pm and I had between 10-15% battery left before I recharged. Overall, I'm pleased with my purchase.

Its a considerable improvement compared to the original EVO 4G.

In regarding to waiting, if you wait now, something else may catch your eye. Its a never ending cycle.

I don't think we can give you a good answer. The best thing is to play with both phones in the store or if you have friends with them.
Some people like the SGS3's plastic, others prefer the more solid feeling build of the HTC One X.

I personally picked the SGS3 for a number of reasons.
1. I like having extra batteries simply because I do a lot of field work and sometimes you go 3-5 days without an electricity source.
2. I take lots of pics so expandable memory is a must.
3. like point 2, it needs to have a good camera, i take lots of pics.
4. I desperately needed an upgrade on my phone (I was using a Nokia N82. Yes, you read the correctly, Nokia N82 from when the first iPhone came out) and I thought, why not get the latest device?

Not really, sense on the htc one X lags and stutters sometimes.Unlike touchwiz which is lighter. Also touchwiz got a lot of additional software features like smart stay, motion cotrols, pop up play etc.I've also heard that the one X doesn't have true multitasking(apps close after a little while of not using them).

I also came from HTC and was in this same predicament. I ultimately chose the SGS3 but you have no idea how close I was to choosing the HOX. Either way I feel I would have been happy.

I agree that if you're used to Sense, you'll probably not like Touchwiz. Not a problem for me, I rooted the day after I bought the phone, now I run either Jellybean AOKP or CM10.

The screen on the One X is amazing, I'll just put that out there. If you look closely it's easy to see the pixels (or rather, sub pixels due to pentile arrangement) on the SGS3, not so with the HOX, also the maximum brightness is worlds brighter, makes a big difference if you're outside on a nice day.

Exterior design is kind of a tossup. The SGS3 looks better in person than it did online for me. I thought it would be piss ugly in person (not rectangular, not all that symmetrical vertically, etc.) but it's actually quite nice in hand. I would still probably prefer the white HOX, but just by a hair.

In terms of smoothness they should be almost exactly the same due to hardware. But Sense, even Sense 4.0, which is lightened, is a CPU/memory hog, so it bogs down a bit more from my experience and others experience. You can get around this by rooting, but if you're on AT&T, you'll likely have update 2.20, which hackers haven't found a way to root even after about 1.5 months of hard work. HTC doesn't have the kind of money Samsung does to throw around to make carriers more compliant, so, locked bootloader+s-on=hard to root.

If you want expandable storage/removeable battery then SGS3 is kind of a no brainer unless you hate touchwiz/love sense. I feel that the differences in screen quality and exterior design aren't enough to make up for the difference.

Me personally? I really wanted to go with the HTC One X. To be honest if the development community on the HOXL was running along a little better I probably would have. Battery and expandable storage were never issues for me. However after rooting I can't go back. Touchwiz was worse than Sense for me, but custom ROMs>>>>all manufacturer skins.

Oh, and for waiting for next batch? If you're from the Hero you've waited plenty long to see a drastic improvement. I sort of doubt that there will be any game changers out there this year unless you count the iPhone 5, but if you're on this forum you probably don't consider it too seriously. Otherwise there's the Note 2 and new Nexus phone(s). If you like massive screen phablets, then sure maybe wait for the Note 2. Nexus is nice but honestly I don't think it's going to be as much of a leap as it was last year with the Galaxy Nexus. JellyBean just came out, so no new version of android coming out with new nexus (at least I doubt it), I bet the hardware in the new Nexus will probably be in a similar tier of performance to the HOX and SGS3. If you know how to root your phone then not having stock android isn't a real problem either.

If I was you, I would get the most reliable phone.

The SGS3 is the better device overall. It has the better newer screen technology called Super AMOLED (more vibrant and attractive colors albeit a tad exaggerated) and it comes with 2GB RAM, better quality antenna and a notification LED (very useful). Also TouchWiz 4.0 is extremely smooth (I dare say smoother than iOS, even PhoneDog agrees with me: Samsung Galaxy S III Review Part 1 - YouTube). Also it got (or will be getting) the official Android 4.1 Jellybean update quicker than the HTC One X. Samsung has a clear advantage with respect to developer support.

SpeedTest also showed that the SGS3 is about 10Mbps quicker in upload/download Internet speeds (3G/4G LTE). This means SGS3 has a better quality antenna.

Also the SGS3 is the best when it comes to Internet browser performance:

Camera quality is better on the SGS3 as well:

The HTC One X while still a good phone, has a very bad quality antenna, making some batches of the HTC One X not able to connect to the Internet properly. Also, the design is not very ergonomic (it feels bigger than it really is because of the awkward placement of the power on button and jutting edges).
