Galaxy S3 Water damage

Ok a LONG while ago my GF thought it would be a good idea to take my phone out in the rain.. When she came back the phone was dead.. I followed the normal instructions of taking the battery out, SD card and putting it in rice.. Left it in there for about 4 to 5 days... When I turned it on it worked, except there was a horizontal line near the lower half of the screen..

Now I dealt with this for a good while cause the phone still worked perfectly.. Then one day the screen went super dark and has been like that since.. I can still read texts and what not, but the darker things I can't see.. For example In a text message, I can see the conversation, but the date and time stamps are pretty much invisible..

Now my question is, is there a way of fixing this? And if not, should I just get it looked at by a professional?

It's very hard to say. Water damage is insidious - corrosion develops, and things can degrade with time. It may be something that could be fixed by simply cleaning a contact, or it may be something has rotted through and in the worst case you'd need to replace the display unit or the motherboard (depending on where the damage is). It's impossible to tell without taking it apart.

To be honest I regard any phone that's "recovered" from water damage to be living on borrowed time. Stuff degrading down the line is quite common.
