Galaxy S5 Not transferring files

I am having trouble with My Galaxy S5 transferring files from the phone to my PC. When I plug in the USB cord to phone and PC, there is nothing on the drop down menu that says anything about transferring files (it once did) and there is nothing on my PC that said a new device is plugged in. I should say that I am having problems with keeping my cord attached to the phone most times. Would this have something to do with my problem?

Try a different cable. The pins that carry data may not be making contact.
If another cable behaves the same way then it's possible the phone port is damaged.

You could also look into wireless transfer apps like AirDriod. Seen it recommend here a few times
