tl;dr - my phone froze then went black and did not restart, no amount of button combinations will restart the device, has anyone ever had this problem and fixed it by just disconnecting the battery?

Longer story

My Galaxy S6 Edge has been freezing and restarting lately, normally gets stuck when I'm typing or trying to do two things at once, it usually just restarts. sometimes it takes a few restarts to get going again.
I recently upgraded to 6.0.1 and the problem did not desist.

So, now it has frozen at 40% battery and the screen is now black and unresponsive. No amount of button combinations are working. The phone is under warranty and I can send it away to get fixed, however, I would really really like my photos and data from the phone.
I know what you're thinking, why didn't you back up when it started happening! .. I know I screwed up..

Anyway, my question is
has anyone ever had this problem and was able to fix it by just disconnecting the battery from the motherboard?
I don't want to pull it apart and void my warranty if I have no chance of it working :(

Thanks in advance

Yes, also tried 2 different USB cables.
My current plan of attack is to wait a week and hope the battery dies on its own, then get my data off

I know you said button combinations weren't working, but have you tried holding the power button for 20 or 30 seconds? For phones without removable batteries, this usually simulates a battery pull.
