Help Galaxy S6 loosing charge

I have had this phone for la little more than a year. I bought it used from swappa.

Until literally three days ago it has been functioning satisfactorily. I do not have a lot of extraneous apps...Instagram being an exception. I have blocked bloatware...very carefully and as little as possible.

After reading, a discussion here about batteries and battery life, I keep my phone topped off and try not to let the charge get below 75%. I charge it every night before I retire. At the same time, I clear any apps that might still be open.

For the last three days, the charge has dropped from 100% to the 20's or 30's overnight. This has not happened before. Usually I might lose 15-25% overnight, at the most.

I am wondering what is going on? i recently turned on Bluetooth with a shutter remote but turned it off a day later. Other than that I can think of no changed made to this phone that would be sucking power like this.

Thought? Any advice would be appreciated.

I'm guessing the battery is failing if it's not holding a charge for long

I know you can replace the battery (with some difficulty)...wish there were an app that would assess the health of the battery...but why would it suddenly fail?

After one of these sudden drops, have you checked your battery usage stats? It should show you what the biggest power users are. If it shows normal use, then it's probably the battery failing. If it shows a high use for Android OS, then it's probably one of the radios stuck 'on'. Rebooting the phone can clear that up in most cases.

Thanks for the response.
I don't know how to check battery usage stats...never done it before.

Can you point the way?

On a Galaxy S6 I think it's under settings on the general tab. It's just listed as 'battery'. It will show you a power use graph wit an estimate of time remaining and under that the apps or services that use the most power in descending order.

Of course, I don't have an S6 in front of me so it might be a little different depending on the version of Android you are running.

Thanks again. I haven't had a chance to look at battery but right after your first response, I rebooted the phone and that seems to have helped immensely.
