Galaxy S8 , any news ?

Hey all ! Haven't been on the forum in a long while . But been stuck on the S4 since it's launch . But now with Verizon new unlimited data plan . I can finalyl upgrade after 4 years on the phone!

But I was jucious if there was any news on the new S8 and when its coming , features and what not . .

Also curious to see what users like the better the edge edition or regular ? dislikes or cones for both ?

Well pretty much every phone site out there has a summary of S8 rumours. But briefly:

* Samsung will not be showing it at MWC this month, but will make a statement about when they will announce it (i.e. will try to overshadow other people's product announcements even though they don't have an announcement of their own - you may call me a cynic, I prefer "realist" ;)).

* The phone will have no home button, a longer screen and smaller top/bottom bezels, and a stupidly-placed fingerprint scanner on the back (to one side of the camera).

* There will be no "regular" edition, it will be edge only.

* There will be two sizes, rumoured to be 5.8" and 6.2", called S8 and S8+. But because the screens will have a longer aspect ratio (2:1, which everyone seems to insist on calling 18:9) this makes them the same width as 5.3" and 5.7" displays, and that's before you curve the edges.

* Some versions will definitely use the Snapdragon 835. I've not heard anything about a Exynos model so far.

* USB-C is rumoured this time, and rumours are that they will retain the headphone jack.

* There will probably be bumps to RAM & storage, I've heard contradictory rumours about battery.

* We assume a similar IP rating to the S7, but I think that's an assumption rather than a fact. Probably a safe one too. Similarly we can assume after they resurrected the SD slot in the S7 that it will still be there in the S8. And not a hope in hell it will have a removeable battery.
 
Thanks for the info hardon. I'm still stuck on th s4 as I stated above. I'm sure I will expect eating a big change and improvement in just performance etc.

Will there be any big difference in features veteran to edge and 8 +or what ever they gonna. Also what's the rumored release date for it?
 
I've heard nothing about features (or nothing that has stuck). Doubt there is more than guesswork on release dates, but "not before April" seems a safe bet to me. Their press event on the 27th is the most likely time to hear more.
 
What would a duel camera setup even do ?

can't wait up grade after 4 years on the s4 . it's starting to crap out on me and wifi loads so slow now .

Different manufacturers have used them for different things. The first one I can think of (HTC M8) was for depth of field/refocus effects by combining images (something others subsequently emulated using software). Huawei have used one colour + one monochrome sensor for low-light shooting. LG and Apple have used the combination to emulate a zoom (wide for LG, modest telephoto for Apple).

No regular phone just the Edge? No thanks. I"ll keep my regular S7.
