Incipio's DualPro case for the Galaxy S8 features a 2-layer system with a hard plastic outer shell and a shock absorbing TPU inner lining. Although the shell can be detached from the inner layer, it's not really designed for that and will make the device uncomfortable to hold.

It's not very protective,

I have the unicorn Beatle case, which does a good job at protecting that edge display from small drops.
