When entering phone numbers and text for signing up for a Yahoo group, the phone number was scrambled when going to next field, characters entered in description field were somewhat scrambled as they were entered. This has happened when filling out other fields online. I have no idea what could be causing this. Any help would be appreciated.

When was the last time you cleared the data from the tablet . a factory data reset
And may I ask have you look to see if a update is available

Have never done either of those. I will look at it tonight and let you know what I find out. I will have to figure out how to check for the update.
Also, will the factory reset delete any pictures / documents I have downloaded to the tablet? I imagine I would take out the SD card before doing that.
I will check back with you tomorrow. I have to head out for a while.

Now if items are on SD card you are good. But if they sit on tablet you can do a backup
