Help Galaxy woes

I have had my phone for less than 24 hours. Earlier today, it froze, so the only thing I could do is remove/reinsert battery and it worked. What I didnt notice was the fact that the time is now 01:30pm on sunday 22 January and it wont auto update and im unable to get anything to install from the Android market. Any ideas? I have read something about the power button being held for 10 seconds on restart, but somebody bricked their phone.

Any help appriciated.

BTW, its a Samsung Galaxy. There seems to be alot of bugs from what I have read on the forum regarding Googlemaps etc. Could this be the 2.1 Eclair??
 
OK. Just spoke to 3 and spoke to someone with knowledge.

To factory reset, goto
settings
privacy
factory data reset
then just press the buttons and your phone will reset as if its out of the box.

YOU WILL LOOSE ALL DATA LIKE CONTACTS, DOWNLOADS, PICTURES ETC ETC unless they are on your sim
