Gallery app

I have taken pictures with various cameras but then wanted to put them in my new Galaxy s7 edge. I wanted the pictures to appear in a certain order so I named them 1 through 41. I attached the Galaxy s7 edge to my laptop. I then dragged and dropped them into a folder on the Galaxy s7 edge. All the pictures appeared in order for the Galaxy s7 edge file folder on my laptop. However, when I use the Gallery app, they do not appear in the correct order (and hence do not appear in the correct order for the slideshow). Does anyone know how to reorder the pictures on the Gallery app?

I have messed with that with little success.
the images seem to display in order of the timestamp, not the filename on my phone.

I never use the gallery app for such tasks, I always use a file manager app, which shows the correct file names.
The gallery app is mainly a viewer, and nothing more.

In the upper left in Gallery, make sure it says "Albums" and not "Time", etc.
