Help gallery - share - gmail choice missing

the sms option is missing too
share (Mobile).png

even after choosing "see all ..."

Have you pressed the < button in the top right when viewing the pic in gallery, then press 'see all'? Messaging should be 5th in the list when sending a pic (or 3rd for a vid)
The gmail should just automatically show up at the top. Are you using the stock email app or the gmail app?

Cheers

Elbee

The phone places your most recently used options next to the share button rather than within the menu that opens when you press share, so if you've used messages/Gmail to share something they'll be in the top bar rather than the share menu.

Hey guys,

I just got an s3, and this is the first thing i noticed. The messaging option is not there in the share function of the gallery. I was sure something was wrong with my phone.

I emailed samsung support, who responded:

"Because this phone is running Android 4 (ICS) they have changed the layout of it. If you would like to attach a picture to a MMS message you will have to do it through the messaging application."

Now, i had ICS installed on my galaxy s1 (can't remember the rom name), but it was definitely in there...

Anyway, as a workaround, there's an app on play store called "Gallery ICS", which is basically the same gallery, and it includes all the regular share options (and auto rotates the screen, which the s3 doesn't seem to either)

I'm perplexed as to why they'd fell the need to remove that option, i would think it's a pretty common use case...

yeah im not sure why they said it isnt there because ive always been able to go to my galary my nexus and send a photo the only time it wouldnt work is if the photo was too big.

Mine does this too, whereby the gmail app doesn't show up in the list of share options, and short of ditching the stock Gallery I haven't found a solution. Has anyone else had any luck?

like to send orders in to office by email.
Hand write em, take photo, attach to email. Easy.
In gallery, go share, big list of ways to do it. Choose Gmail. Not a problem.
Go to send next order, Gmail is no longer available.
tried everything. Refuses to come back. Ran software up date, rebooted, same problem.
Dropped IOS for android, 2 days ago, and now feel a bit cheated. To have it there and then to have it taken away is winding me up.
Anyone got any ideas as this is spoiling the pleasure of my new toy.

In the gallery next to the share option should be the last selection you made. Check that first or post a screenshot to help troubleshoot.

So the Icon (arrow on the left) is your list of all the things you can share. The icon (arrow on the right) is usually the most recent thing shared to or the most shared to.

However, if you always share to the same thing (I always share to photobucket) you can actually long press that second icon (right) and set it to be what you want. Mine is always photobucket, no matter how often I share to other apps.

Hope this helps.

I'm having a similar issue to OP - no gmail option in the share list - and it's not next to the share icon either. If anyone has a solution to this please let me know. Gallery ICS doesn't seem to be a complete answer, because if you're using the camera function, and view a photo, it opens it in the stock gallery. And the app called "Camera ICS" seems to be buggy. Would appreciate any suggestions - thanks

I have same problem if I'm viewing a single photo - Gmail or Email apps do not appear as share options.

However, if I go back one step to the album view, press menu button, then press 'Select item', I can select the photo I want to share. Then when I press the Share button, both Gmail and Email are listed.

Hope that helps.

Hi all, I also have an S3 and the lack of the email option was bugging me for a while so it decided to have a little play with it.

Here is how to FIX it.....

Open up gallery
Open up sub folder to show all the photos in a matrix.
Press the phones bottom left button (next to the home button)
Select the "Select Item" option
Browse photo's and select 1 or more photos you want to email.
Select the shate icon(<)
You will now see the email function. This is Gmail for me :)

It is annoying you can't just view and send a photo from the blown up screen I would like to see this fixed and also have an auto rotate option while in the viewing screen.

As some have mentioned before, it seems that the last sharing action you take stays 'pinned' to the menu as an icon right next to the sharing icon, and falls off the pull down "share"menu. If what you're looking for, (eg. GMail or SMS) is not an icon right next to the share icon, and, it's not in the pull down menu, here's what I did to get SMS back. I pulled up an individual picture, pull the drop down Share menu, pick anything and long click it, say, email or gmail for instance. This will cause the email button to come off the pull down menu and become pinned to the top menu as an icon, next to the share button. That seems to have freed up space in the pull down menu for something else to take it's place. In my case, I got back SMS--it just re-appeared in the pull down menu. Then if I go through the motions of sharing a pic to SMS, the SMS entry in the pull-down menu disappears, but its button/icon becomes located next to the share icon. Now of course, when I pick something else, it replaces the SMS button and SMS becomes the first item in the pull-down menu. No need to use grid view to try to trick it or anything.

First and foremost, check the icon next to the "share" icon!!!--I get the feeling that my SMS option was right there all along which is why it was absent from the pull-down Share menu. Give it a try, I wish you luck.

Am I missing something here? On my S3 I view the image I want to share, then press the :> button at the top. This opens a box with 6 links visible in it. But if the one I want is not there, scrolling the box upwards shows all the others.

Perhaps people haven't noticed this as it's not that obvious that this window scrolls.

fredsie: The problem is being experienced by far too many people - myself included - for it to be just a scrolling issue, but nice idea. :)

I've tried various work-arounds, but as far as I can tell android / google / samsung / the gallery app developer decided the share intent (the <: icon) would only display gmail as an option for selected image(s). To explain what I mean by that...

It is bloody obvious to me, that if I'm viewing a single image and hit the share intent icon, that I want to share the image I'm currently viewing - unfortunately gmail isn't in the title bar or the share popup list. It's just not possible to share an image via gmail from the "image view" screen.

However! Follow the steps below -

1. Go back to album view - i.e. the screen you see before viewing a single image at a time. It should be a table of thumbnails*
2. Long-press the image you want to share.
3. Ensure the image has a green tick at the top right of its thumbnail
4. If you want to share more images, long-press them too.
5. Hit the share intent icon, <:
6. Scroll down and you should see more options, including... GMAIL !!
7. Gmail's "new email" will launch with the image already attached.

Have a nice day, now. :)

[*] What particular table style is used for album display seems to change based on which way the wind is blowing in Fiji on a Thursday afternoon.

Strange

I have all the options, and they work very well, whether sharing from Gallery or any other app.

Share Screenshot - Imgur

The list under "share" includes pretty much, any app capable of Sharing. And I do use it a lot.

Could it be related to some custom ware forced by the provider? I use International, unlocked device.

I have a similar problem, and gallery ics didn't fix it. YOUTUBE IS'T SHOWING UP AS A CHOICE. I NEED TO TAKE VIDEOS AND UPLOAD THEM TO MY YOUTUBE ACOUNT. I WAS EVEN SIGNED IN TO YOUTUBE. I USED TO DO THIS ALL THE TOME WIT MY OG EVO.
