Games requires web connection?

I find it a bit strange that so many single player games requires internet access. It would be nice if I could choose which applications which were allowed to use my web connection, or if I at least had a log which showed when the web was used.

if a game needs internet access it's for two reasons
1 - Ad supported (free games do this a lot)
2 - Scoreboard (to upload/download global rankings)


I'd rather have ads than pay for an app right now. Doesn't bother me, but I'm on T-Mobiles unlimited web.
