Games scailing with hardware

Hey all. So I've been considering switching to Android in some time now and I think the OS is just great. But there's one thing that concerns me. Currently I'm using an Iphone 4 and I'm really getting sick of it and would be glad to go with Android (I'm planning on getting HTC Desire HD). The only thing that keeps me with Iphone is the games.

So I was looking on Android market to see what is the choice of games and it's ok, but sadly still not close to Iphone. The other thing I noticed is that prices are sometimes just too high when comparing the same game on the iphone, which still isn't the thing that bothers me most.

Now the point of this thread is: I've noticed that all the better games requier only newer version of the OS, but don't depend on hardware(or maybe I'm wrong). For example, on Iphone 3G, you have the 530 gpu in it and the games make most use of it. But on the other hand 3GS and 4 have 535 and there are lot of games that make use of the more graphic power and games look a lot better and in the end they make use of the Retina display and look the best they can.

So on the Android games I was looking at (Need For Speed, Reckless Racing, or so on), I've noticed that they don't mention any improvement in having more powerful cpu and gpu rather than in performance. I know it's hard to achieve, since there is so much Android phones and they all need to be able to run the game, but still, are there cases in games just like with Iphone, that you have better looking game on your phone over some weaker android phone that runs the same game?

Sorry for the long thread, but It's not easy to express what I mean.
In conclusion, I hope some experienced Android users could clear the things out for me.

Ya, not really. Good games just don't play on low end devices..

Check out gameloft... They have the best games for android, and none of them are on the market.

Good idea, but I was really hoping I could find one device that has it all. It's a shame, Android devices are just as or more powerful than Iphone but they games don't use them to their potential.

Yeah, true. Sorry I'm still not enough into Android to know how the things work around here :).
So If I got this right, there are no cases in games improving graphics with better hardware?

Occasionally you'll get a game that offers an HD version on top of the normal one for higher end phones. But generally speaking it's one version for all phones regardless of power.

You shouldn't have a problem with most games if you get the Desire HD. I have the Desire and a few HD games. Dungeon Hunter HD and Asphalt HD both run extremely smooth on my somewhat older hardware.

If you want gaming wait for Cortex A9 Dual Core phones, otherwise the Galaxy S or Nexus S will serve you well as they use the PowerVR SGX540 GPU, yes that's faster than the SGX535 in the iPhone 4.

Desire HD is a good phone but it's not as fast when it comes to gaming.

Gaming is improving for Android, but there is still a delay usually, afterall most of the games are ported straight from the iPhone versions at the moment.

Yeah, I noticed the Nexus S, but the only drawback I'm having is it's camera, I just don't get it how could they screw it up so bad.

I wouldn't pay much attention to the MP ratings, I've moved from phones with 8MP back to 5MP and you don't really notice much difference.

The only downside I can see is the Nexus S doesnt record at 720p, which seems odd considering the Galaxy S does. Not sure what Googles thinking was behind that one.

Yeah I agree about the difference, but still, considering it's an upgrade and that today's trend for high end smartphone is at least 8MP, I would still expect it. But yeah, they rly screwed up the video, makes no sense at all :)

If you want to play games on Android, you should get a phone with a Tegra 2 chip, like the LG Optimus Speed. The best games that were released last month were all Tegra exclusives, e.g. Samurai 2 or Monter Madness.

Good point, thx. But I am really in situation where I'm looking for a android phone to trade with my Iphone, I'm not in a position to pay a lot of money for a new device. I thik that LG could be too hot to handle :)
