Gapps installation renders phone useless

Dear all

Recently I have rooted my Xiaomi Redmi 1s succesfully. I installed an unofficial Cyanogenmod 12.1 (armani) on the phone. Also with success! Then I wanted to install gapps and from there on I got major issues.

After starting up is keeps popping up messages 'unfortunately com.android.google.gms has stopped', and much more other versions like 'google play store' or 'google services'. They keep coming up and I'm getting crazy...

In my App-drawer I can see those apps installed...although I see the android icon and when I try to run them it says "App isn't installed". Tried to remove them with a bloatware remover. The remover said it was removed successfully, but the app still remains.

I also reinstalled Cyanogenmod 12.1 but that also did not resolve.
I also reset the phone to factory settings wiping ALL userdata and that also did not resolve.

I have run out of options now. How can I remove all gapps residue on my phone? And if that's succesful...how can I install google play store without those annoying issues? Can somebody please help?

Thanks a lot!
Maarten

Ohw...

Solved! :D

I activated the recovery from Cyanogenmod itself and then reinstalled and wiped cache and factory reset. That did work. All previous actions were taken with CWM recovery.
