Gboom bummer

My friend has a lousy cheap phone and a really good Bluetooth speaker called a Gboom. He has been having trouble getting them to work with each other and has considered using earphones. Is there a way to fix this without spending any more money?

It's a ZTE Fanfare 2 that cost maybe $27. Ideally it would be a better one but that's another story for another lottery ticket. Sometimes it works to unpair them and then relink them (phone and Gboom). At the moment he's using c. $10 earphones.

For me, if the speaker is not receiving input for around 10 minutes (meaning I am not playing any sounds thru the speaker) it will automatically disconnect. Also, if there are any other bluetooth devices nearby that your friend occasionally connects to then those devices might be vying for the connection which would keep the Gboom from connecting. You may also look at any settings in the speaker, phone, or app being used to play the media that may be set for disconnecting after X amount of idle time.
