Gear 2 on HTC One M8

SC3PT3R

Lurker
Hey everyone, I've been lurking on this forum for a while now, but I finally made an account as I'm having an issue setting up my Gear 2 with my HTC One (m8).

I got a Samsung Gear 2 from a friend for my birthday a couple of days ago and I've been trying to get it setup. I've installed all of the appropriate apk files for the Samsung Gear app, and it launches, and I'm able to pair the Gear to my phone via bluetooth, however when I try to connect to the gear using the Samsung Gear app, I just get "HostManager" has stopped. I haven't been able to install the GearManagerStub.apk file, as I'm on Android 5.0.1 and I can't root my phone (at least I think I can't).

Is it possible to connect my Gear to my One (m8) on 5.0.1 without rooting the phone, or will I need to downgrade to KitKat to get my Gear working? Any help would be appreciated.

Okay, so I managed to get my Gear 2 working. Took me a few hours last night, but success! I was able to get it working without needing to root my phone and I managed to find a version of the "GearManagerStub.apk" that would install just by running it from my "Downloads" folder. I'll try to compile a folder of the apks on Google Drive to share with anyone who needs these.

hi Bro..... i am facing the same problem..... i have HTC one m8 and Smart Gear 2... can u help me to resolve the issue please??

You'll need to downgrade to KIT KAT for that. No one has successfully paired non Samsung phones running LOLLIPOP with Tizen ware.

so?? whats this mean?
i do need to root my m8 to get kitkat?

You can flash the KitKat RUU for your Sprint M8,or,as you mentioned, unlock the bootloader, root, flash a Kit-Kat ROM.
If need be,I'll posts some links to get you on your way.

Yes if you can please that would be awesome!

No rush right now if your busy ill be out for the day ill try it tonight if you post by then

Thanks!

TBH & to avoid steering you in the wrong direction,I'm not 100% on the pre-requisites for downgrading, especially on carrier-branded HTC devices.
My last HTC was a Developer Edition M9 & while it was "Bootloader Unlocked",this is only the half of it.
Long story (real) short,I took it a step further by going S-OFF,makes ROM flashing/downgrading a lot easier.

We have the best HTC community right here in this forum & can best help determine which route to go for what you're needing.
When you get back, provide as much info as possible for your phone:
Model #
Firmware version
Whether you're currently rooted/bootloader unlocked.
S-ON or S-OFF.
