Help Geo News annoying the crap out of me...

rtuite

Newbie
I do like the alerts from Geo News for things like storms, freezing weather, etc. But, when we get periods of heavy rain like we have for the last few days, I am getting upwards of 10 flood notifications an hour, and it's very distracting.

I uninstalled the Weather Channel app because it was spamming me with notifications that are completely irrelevant to me. Not that I don't care about tragedies in the news, I just don't need a notification about it. Anyway, that's a different annoyance.

I poked around in Geo News and there doesn't seem to be any selection of what notifications I want to recieve. Is it seriously just an on/off toggle? I just want to disable flood notifications!

Yes, those apps will quickly become a nuisance....

IF, and this is a huge IF, we could get it refined to where we only got a warning for the Zipcode we live in...
that would make it much more useful....

I live north of Tulsa, Oklahoma..... and the Weather Channel sends out a blurb about Severe Weather for "Northeast Oklahoma" and that advisory includes the entire east half of the state.... yes, it is important for folks down near Lake Tenkiller to be aware that a Tornado is coming, but I live 175 miles north of there....

I just turned OFF all Notifications period. I am a big boy, if it looks cloudy, I go to the website and look at what is there. On my Home Screen, I have the WeatherChannel at the top. In one glance, I can tell if there are any warnings, there is a Red dot on the icon.... if I pull down the Notification Panel, I will see a listing there for the warning, but I don't get any beeps.... I turned all of that crap off.

I used to be signed up for 911 emergency, if a weather warning is coming for my county, our local 911 center touches a button and it sends an alert to my cell phone.... but even that, became so useless, I removed it.

Can I suggest that you both might like to take a look at Transparent clock & weather, free from the Play Store. IMHO, this app is far superior and a lot more configurable than the stock app and if set on cell tower location and not GPS, is a lot more battery friendly and accurate. It also has the advantage that you can choose not only a weather provider but that you can also dictate which notifications you receive, from sandstorms to drizzle, (around 60 in all). From my own experience, I can vouch for the developer who is continually improving and updating the app and it has a very highly configurable widget/s. Well worth looking into and playing around with. Do read the, "Help", notes that are in Settings.

I looked at that app, and I much prefer the WeatherChannel app, thanks anyway, I bookmarked it for future questions on weather

AZgl1500 - My problem with WeatherChannel app is that I was getting live hurricane news alerts. I live in Indiana. If a hurricane ever directly affects me more than some rain 3-4 days after landfall, we're all in trouble. I even disabled these "news alerts," but they kept coming through. I'm a "Minimal notifications" kind of person. I want to know when I get an email, text, call, some limited weather notifications, and that's about it. I don't even want Facebook notifications. I do, however, like the incoming rain notifications from WC to remind me to roll up my windows...

ironass - I'll check that one out and see if it does me any better.

How do I remove Geo News from my S5 home screen?
This annoying application is a right pain in the you know what and you can’t get rid of it. I don’t want it, I’m not interested in it.
I can’t understand why a soft developer would write an application that doesn’t allow you to de-install the application.
All the posts on the Web show you how to disable it but don’t tell you how to remove if completely.
A very frustrated Samsung S5 user.
