Get ready for Another Metro price increase?

at least for unlimited?

Sorry for the cross forum post but I think this is VERY relevant here too

Notice NO notice on this, it happens THIS month. T-Mo unlimited going from $70 to $80.

Can a similar increase at Metro be far behind? They Just Had a similar increase Last Year.

We should hope for a PR apocalypse over this at T-Mo. How interesting that the information is on T-Mo news's webpage but NOT on their Faceplant page. Not ready willing and able to take the public heat there?

Doing that would just make people more likely to switch from metro to straight talk...

Considering straight talk doesnt off a true unlimited unthrottled plan i dunno if that would be a fair option. Metros 50 dollar plan is comparable to atraight talks. Both are throttled down after 2.5 gb of data.

Even if they raised to 70 bucks its still the only unlimted/unthrottled option in prepaid. Closest plan is aio's/cricket's 60 dollar plan. Thats 5gb at high apeed data then throttled to 256 kbps. Boost/virgin is 2.5 gb then throttled and gophone/verizon are all hard capped and offer no unlimited data options. Not to mention verizon prepaid offers no lte service. T mobile operated at a 20 million dollar loss last quarter. They gotta get revenue somehow. And seriously as pointed earlier what are the better options? People can bitch and moan about it all they want but where are they gonna get the same plan from for cheaper? Nowhere. Not even at an 80 dollar price point.

The thing that's making them lose money is the migration to simple choice once that slows down they'll be gaining money and more than before since revenue is up. $20M for them is really nothing. They're raising the unlimited prices because of the people you see using 60GB and such a month and they're also using the additional money for network investments. The new $70 plan is supposed to be what the average amount of data used on the old $70 plan is.

Ray said that the average T-Mobile customer uses 1 to 2 GB of data per month but that those on unlimited plans use an average of 5 GB.

Thus losing more money than there making.thus there raising prices to increase revenue. No matter how you word it or try to paint it they are/were losing money, they are also losing money on some data plans....they need to spend money to for there network...they need to raise prices to increase revenue. No matter how tnobile spins it it is what it is. They need revenue to stay out of the red. Im not saying its a bad thing and actually defend em on it. But its all revenue related.

The whole point is the only reason they're getting a loss is because of the migration to the new plans and they've known this all along since they announced simple choice because they said they may lose a small amount quarterly until 2H 2014 but once the majority has migrated which will be the second half of this year they won't be losing money. Revenue isn't in the red their revenue for 2013 was $24B

You should really be a p.r guy for t mobile so there making money out the wazoo building the greatest network ever created have no issues but are still raising prices to cover costs. Lol see how that makes no sense? And how much did they spend out in 2013? Now you see where the problem is. The whole point of business again is the make more than you spend. If spending is higher than making whats usually the first thing that happens? Either a price increase or a spendings drop. Option 2 they cant afford or theyll be left in the dust. Option 1 it is. Again spin it how you want but it is what it is.

The key is don't be greedy cause someone will pull you down .that may happen with our buddies cricket and the at&t

guess that oneplus one i'm looking at needs to come out quicker so i can jump on that $60 GSM plan before metro decides to follow suit and raise prices.

T-Mobile themselves have an unlimited/unthrottled prepaid plan as well, but since it's the same towers it doesn't make a huge difference.

Yea its the t mobile plan there raising to 80 dollars. Im saying if they raise metros plan by 10 also at 70 bucks its still the best data deal in prepaid.

Indeed, it's by far the best prepaid truly unlimited deal. I wish they would increase their physical presence more though. I see commercials for them all the time, but there's no store around me for about 100 miles.

However I would contend that T-Mobile's 30 dollar prepaid plan is the best prepaid deal around, but that's just me. :)

They're raising the price of unlimited to fund the expansion to their whole footprint that they just announced not because they're currently in desperate need of money.
You said they're in the red for revenue which is not true their revenue for 2013 was $24B. They had a net profit of $35M and have been saying since the beginning of last year that they're prepared for having a small quarterly loss till the majority of customers are on simple choice. In their operation a $20M loss is barely anything, that's a loss of 3 cents per share. If it was something they were worried about they could of easily done something to make it look like a profit but that loss is miniscule.

A loas is a loss no matter what. Lol sprint has been saying there gonna turn a profit to pretty soon. They havent yet. People can say all they want. Desperate for money no prolly not. Niether is sprint. In need of money? Yes. Again the goal is to be a peofitable company not say well we will be a profitable company soon just watch. Sprints been saying that for 2 years now. The fact remains they operate at a loss. No spin changes that. No matter what the reason. You in one hand say they dont need money and yet in the same poat say there raising prices cause they need money to upgrade there sites. When thsn clearly they need money lol anyone can spin anything how they want but again it is what it is. They are a company who ia currently operating at a loss and need to do something to change that to stay competitive.

I should of upgraded my plan today to the 60 plan since my bill was due today fml. People who are in the inside can you please keep me posted if Metropcs has plans to do the same as T-Mobile, so I can upgrade before it happens. I just checked my online account and if I want to upgrade to the 60 dollar plan right now I have to pay $120 wth.

The $500M they paid for the integration of MetroPCS could of been split up and just that would of made them profitable if that's the "spin" they want to put. Sprint's net loss of $1.9B for 2013 is much different than Tmo's net profit of $35M. But to roll out 4G for the rest of the network at the pace they're known for they'll need to raise their Capex .

That's weird I wonder since when they've done it like that. They used to prorate it like if you were on the $50 and upgraded to the $60 you'd just pay $10 for the remainder of the month. Maybe you should call and ask or something to see if online is messing up

Lol your saying almoat the exact same thing ive said all along. Ok a loss is a loss no matter how you get there. No couldas wouldas or ifs. A loss is a loss. So if it is continued at this current pace (with network upgrades and such) without a price increase odds are they will continue to operate at a loss. Thats my whole point. Thats been my whole point. And yes sprints loss is higher but i was using sprint as an example as to every year its the same thing from them. By quarter 3 of this year we expect to turn a profit. But sometimes things dont go as planned. Maybe t mobile will turn a profit this year. If so awesome.

You're saying they need to find new revenue just to run the company I'm saying they just need additional revenue for investments
I'm pretty sure they know what they're doing when they say the thing that was making them have a loss is migration to Simple Choice and when it gets above 85% they'll be getting a profit once again. That's what they've been definitively telling their shareholders, they've been on the stock market less than a year I don't think they'd start lying now.

Not sayin there lying. Saying things happen. Expenses change. Forcasts change. Things happen. Maybe thry will maybe they wont. But the price increase is clearly because they need extra money to operate how they want to. If they were well ahead in the game would they raise prices to upgrade there network? Prolly not. Verizon doesnt raise prices everytime they do tower upgrades. Att now has to upgrade and overhaul crickets network there not raising rates because they do. It is clearly a cash move. Thinking its not is silly. There doing it because they have to.

It's also for raising money for the 2 auctions and other chances to buy spectrum that are coming up. Which the others don't up prices for but get funding through the bond market.
