Help Get rid of alerts

zuben el genub

I've been asking in the Rant thread as to how to turn the alerts OFF.

Here's 2 posts:
How do you get rid of the alerts? I unchecked all in preferences and they STILL show up.

I went into settings, preferences, menu, unchecked everything, hovered over the alert thing in the upper right corner, unchecked all the preferences (they were the same as the main preferences) and they are still there.

All the settings are blank, there are NO marks in the boxes, but I can't delete the ones that show up, and that icon in the top right corner still flashes with alerts.

How do you stop them, or clean out the page that lists them?

Thanks

You may need to disable alerts for forums you have listed as favorites. Go to the My Forums menu on the top left of the page. Choose edit and you should get a list of your favorite forums with checkboxes next to them. Click them all and at the bottom choose disable alerts (or similar) to turn off alerts for new posts in these forums. For some reason XF turned these alerts on by default.

Thanks, but those are blank, too. I never choose favorites on any site. I also don't follow anything, so there should be no threads checked, either. There is also no disable alerts on the bottom of that page.

Maybe I'm doing a poor job explaining. Here are some screenshots from mine. Maybe a picture is worth 1,000 words, or in my case, more useful than my vocabulary.:D
Here is where you choose to edit your favorite forums:

In there check of each forum you want to change the alert status on and on the bottom left is the drop down where I see Disable Alerts

In my example, it would Disable alerts for new posts in FAQs & Suggestion Box & Feedback. If you don't have favorites or have disabled them here already, then we'll have to look elsewhere for the alerts.:)

I just want to say thanks again and let you know that I have not had a new alert since Iapplied this magic last evening.
Does anyone know of a spell to remove the old ones still in the alert list?

Sorry, I found all those places, and there is nothing checked. Still have alerts.
There should be a way to delete the stupid things from that list.

Having followed the steps above and unchecked everything in 'Alert preferences' in my Account settings I haven't had a single alert since just after midday today.

The fact that the historic alerts since Saturday are still listed is not an issue to me.

:)

Checking the box next to the forum is selecting them for modification of the behavior the forum software will take when there are post in them and choosing the option in the dropdown is the change you are choosing to take. You need to check any forum that is listed in there and choose disable alerts as shown in the screenshots. For reasons beyond the control of me or admin XF defaults to you being subscribed automatically.

There are no checkmarks anywhere. I've crawled all over where suggested and a few places that weren't and there are NO checkboxes with a tick in them.

If I look at any forum listed under "My forums/watched forums", all the boxes are empty.

There isn't a tick in the boxes next to these. You have to tick the boxes in order to change the actions (alerts) that you don't like. Then choose to change the action.

I don't do favorites. I did what you said, and checked all the preferences, and the boxes for the section to receive an alert when someone answers a post, you get a like, etc. - were all rechecked and I didn't do it. Something seems to be rechecking those.

I think your software decided that any forum you read consistently was a favorite, unchecked or not.
Finally got stop following forums to work. Nothing listed in favorite forums, alert box cleared. Hope it stays that way. Now I'd like to delete the alerts that did appear. No use hogging space for what I don't want or need.

So you got the alerts turned off? Great!:) I'll have to look around to ask how to get rid of the old ones, but I think once you view them they will just go away eventually.
