Getting Audio Onto SD Card

I have downloaded music on my computer (MP3) but how do I get it onto the SD card in the phone? I tried just copying it like I would to any other drive and it says that it is write-protected. It says to remove the write-protection.

How do I get music on the SD card?
If necessary, how do I remove write-protection?
If I remove write protection will this affect my phone or my files in any way?

Connect usb cable to phone and computer, open sd card, make Music folder, drag music into music folder.

If necessary, how do I remove write-protection?

there shouldnt be write protection on microsd cards. Are you sure you have the phone in Disk Drive mode? You could always try reformatting the card.

Are the mp3's you downloaded DRM free?

I guess that shouldn't prevent it from getting on the SD card, but you never know.
