Getting New Phone - Need Some Advice

Ok so I have the LG Dare, which I really don't like whatsoever. I've always been a smart phone guy I just didn't have the money at the time. Anyways, I'm so fed up with my $80 a month Verizon bill for 450 mins, unl text, no data.

I went down to the Sprint store and a very nice guy offered me a pretty good option. I told him I was interested in the EVO, so he put me on a list of 30 to get the phone the day it comes out. I just finished my freshman year in college so I don't have much credit, but the guy told me it would be a $100 deposit. He then said I'll get the $69.99 everything plan + $10 for the EVO, but then he gave me a 10% monthly discount. Should I shoot for 15% because I'm in college?

Also he told me that I will pay $214 for the phone and then get a $100 mail in rebate, so a total of $114. I asked him a few times if that was correct because everyone else has been saying $299 before a 100$ mail in rebate. Anyone know anything about this?

Anyways, do you think it's worth it for me to cancel Verizon and pay the 200 I will owe them slowly after my last bill and the termination fee and go with Sprint? I really need a new phone, I like the Incredible as well but Verizon seems way to pricey for me and I do really like the EVO.

The other thing is I like a 4" plus screen because 3.5" and 3.7" are just a tad bit to small for browsing imo. I think I'm going to love the EVO, and I'm hoping with proper settings I can get the same battery life if not better than the Motorola Droid. Also do you think there will be cases and screen covers for the EVO the day it comes out? I like to protect my devices as soon as I get them.

Sorry for the novel. Thanks
