Glitch in vBulletin?

Rukbat

Extreme Android User
I've only seen this in one forum - Unanswered Threads. I'll click the Next arrow, or a page number, at the bottom right, and get a "No such search item" (I think that's the text). I'll go to the forum again from the Android Forums page, and I get the first page. Sometimes I can go to additional pages, sometimes it fails again.

I've never seen this happen before in any forum software.

It's because the unanswered threads isn't a forum. When you click it, you're actually performing a search with pre-specified parameters - so what you then see is a list of search results rather than a section of the forum. If you note the URL you're taken to, it will be: http://androidforums.com/search.php?searchid=xxxxxxx

The reason that it sometimes gives you that error is that the forum only holds search results in memory for a pretty short period of time. You can navigate to the other pages during that time, but once the results have been ditched you'll have to run the search again to see the results.

Quirky, I know, but it does benefit the site to not need to store results for long periods. :)

Understood. I noticed that if I took too long it triggered the situation, but I never looked at the URL. Makes sense to not clobber the database with data that's seldom used.

As for the millions of other little quirks, that's why I prefer phpBB or MyBB. Only 8 million quirks each.
