Help gmail app crashes when opening attachments

Running kitkat ota. Thing is, it also happens when I try to open attachments on my RAZR maxx running jelly bean. What gives?

What kind of attachments? Gmail doesn't open attachments itself, it passes them to some other app (built in or downloaded, whatever) that knows how to open them.

Since your issue is neither device nor OS version dependent it sounds very likely that the attachment (and/or the app handling it) is the cause.
