Gmail App Notifications

I just got a Motorola Droid and I'm greatly pleased with it, but I'm having one minor problem with the Gmail app that's tedious and slightly annoying. I wanted to see if anyone else has the same problem and how you've fixed it. Sorry if this thread is in the wrong place!

Whenever I get a new email, the notification appears properly. I click it, it takes me to the email. The notification stays there and does not go away like it should. I have to go back to the notification again and either clear notifications or access the email a second time.

Any ideas as to why I'm getting two of the exact same notifications?

i don't know the answer to your question, but I use an app called "unread gmail notifications" and it installs like a widget, but appears like an icon. Never had a problem with it.

Just download Gmail Notifier... works great Thanks for the idea!
