Gmail Hide message preview?

How do I still get notifications for emails but at the same time hide the actual message in the notification pannel? You use to be able to do it easy as in there use to be a hide preview message.

Yes I have it set up for notification badges, But if I set it up how you said then I don't get badge notifications.

What home screen launcher are you using? Stock? If so you may want to use a different launcher, such as Nova launcher from the play store, that runs independently from the stock launcher

Hmmm. That's odd. I have a ZTE grand x max plus and I can turn off notifications per each app so that they don't show up on the window shade but still give me numbered badges on screen and in the app drawer. Also using the latest version of nova launcher....

Any chance you can do a screenshot of what you got disabled? If I disable it will that mean I get no sound notification?

Can't get a screen shot inside my settings screen. But you need to be in settings, sounds and notifications, app notifications, then choose from the list and choose block...

Thanks for your help, but It's not working for me if I stop notifications then it stops everything sound and badges.

I can block it from the shade if its on lockscreen but as soon as I unlock then you can see the message in the shade.

I have been doing searches on google, I can't find anything related to hiding information from emails in the shade.
