Help Gmail Label notifications with Tasker?

I just started working with Tasker and have read some tutorials and YouTube videos. My hope is to recreate the features of an app called Gmail Label Notifier that is no longer supported or compatible with newer versions of Android. I have a need to setup unique notification sounds and persistent (i.e. repeats notifications every x minutes until dismissed) notifications based upon the Gmail Label applied to an incoming message.

Since I am a noob to Tasker I am finding it difficult to figure out how to setup profiles to accomplish this. Can someone please give me some tips on how to do this?

There are Tasker E-mail variables ...
%EDATE - date
%EFROM - from
%ESUBJ - subject
%ETIME - time

The latest word I found from the Tasker develoiper is ...

Those variables are only for use with the k9 mail client app. For Gmail I think your only option is to read the Gmail database, which requires root.
