GMAIL or EMAIL: Which do I use?

So, there are two email apps on my Galaxy S3.

There is Email: Closed white envelope with embossed @

There is GMAIL: Open envelope with Red M sticking out of it.

Which one are we supposed to use and why are there two of what could basically be the same application?

I use the EMAIL app (closed envelope with embossed @) but I have heard others say that the other app (with the Red M) should be used instead.

Your thoughts?

I thhink it all depends on what email you have I think the Gmail one is only for Gmail thought that's why it might be easier because it only focuses on the one where the email is for all type whether Hotmail, aol, mail. Com etc... So it's all up to you I would imagen

You automatically get a Gmail account when you purchase an Android smartphone. If you are new to android then this would be your first Gmail account. Whether you use it or not is up to you. The stock email app can be used for an existing email account that you may have, and setting that up is usually easy. Gmail is fast and secure. K9 Mail is a popular replacement for the stock app.

Gotcha. Thanks, guys.

I am going to continue using the Email.

Have to say, there really isn't any superb email programs for Android.

I have used K-9, and recent bought AquaMail Pro.

By design, all of them are kind of bare-boned and lackluster compared to what I have seen on Apple phones.

...not trying to entice Apple vs. Android debate, but do a search on the web and many critics criticize Android for lack of a robust email client.

I am hoping since Google recently purchased Sparrow that a Android app is forthcoming.

Thanks again, all.
