Help Gmail sync on Android ICS Sony tablet S

Hello,

I want to stop Gmail sync on my Sony tablet S running the Android ICS. I have tried turning off the account sync off all together but Gmail still syncs when I open it. I want it to stop. Any ideas?

I don't think it's possible to stop it from fetching email when you open the app. Can you "freeze" it from Settings -> Apps ?

How do you "Freeze" the app? Also, if it is not possible to stop the sync, is there a way to password protect the app?

From Settings -> Apps -> All Apps, then find Gmail. The right top button should say something like "uninstall update" or "freeze app". I believe you have to uninstall any/all updates first before you can freeze it.

You can password-protect the device, I don't think you can do it per-app.

This was something that bothered me as well because this is a family tablet that we share. Everybody was able to access my Gmail because they would receive notifications while they were on it. I tried everything with nothing working. Finally I asked the wife one day what her gmail password was so I added her gmail account so I could log out of mine. It worked. I suppose you could create a fake gmail just so you could use it. I'm assuming you have the same circumstance with family sharing as I. Would love to find another option like user accounts on the tablet with passwordprotection so we could all get the maximum benefit from the tablet.

Now you could use "guest" mode to make it family-shareable. Just disable the Gmail app from the other accounts.
