Gmail sync problem

In the last few days I've noticed that I am not receiving my usual notifications when I receive priority inbox messages. If I open Gmail, I find the list of labels shows I have X number of messages in my inbox and/or priority inbox, but if I open those boxes, I don't get the messages until I use the refresh button under menu options. After that, all the messages appear as normal.

I haven't previously encountered this problem, so I am guessing I have somehow changed some settings, either in gmail or on the phone itself, but I can't figure out what change I have made. I've examined all the ones I would have expected to cause a problem, but I'm obviously overlooking something.

Any suggestions?

I installed "Free Power Widget" and it has an "Auto Sync" option. Clicking on that seems to have solved the problem.

I'm sure the option is also somewhere under settings, but I have checked everywhere I think logical (and some not so) and I haven't been able to find it. At least I have a solution, though.
