GO Launcher EX Hijack?

Today I received two really irritating notifications at the same time on my LG Spectrum. One was GO Launcher EX telling me I had some app updates available, despite never having installed anything from the GO store. The other was the Amazon Appstore telling me it had an update of itself.

I canceled the update to the Appstore and used Google to check out the validity of the update, finding nothing. Even Amazon didn't have anything listed. I can't get the Appstore to try updating again, either. I'm suspicious.

Maybe it's just the paranoid freak in me coming out, but I can't shake the feeling these two incidents are related. I'm almost spooked enough to dump GO Launcher EX and switch over to ADW EX...

Anyone have any thoughts to share?

Thanks

Well I run GO so I decided to see if I had an update. and sure enough Appstore wants to update. I downloaded and installed it to see what it would put the version at, and it now reads 2.4.0 (previously 2.3.0) and says "Minor bug fixes and stability enhancement"

The only weird thing is I couldn't find anything regarding a new update from Googling....

At least I know I'm not going crazy...

The weirdest thing to me was that GO wanted to update apps from the Amazon Appstore. Why would GO "intercept" these updates? And the apps it wanted to update weren't showing up as ready to update in the Appstore.

It just seems like GO is trying something sneaky...

try manually going in the play store and updating there. Also, check to see if you have the appstore as a default. Go to settings> applications> go to appstore and select clear defaults

I may have some of the wording wrong but you get what I'm saying :)

I don't use go but the appstore had an update for me ten minutes ago. I do have go in the appstore as a purchased/downloaded app. All apps from Amazon have a phone home module in them for Amazon. I learned this the hard way, with a wifi only tablet while on vacation.

Every so many days if you do not open the Amazon appstore, or have it installed, ALL Amazon appstore downloaded apps will stop working until you install the Amazon store or connect to the internet so it can validate your license for reach app.

What happened to you today is that you have downloaded go through Amazon, when go checked in to Amazon it detected an update for itself, this triggered the check for updates processes on the appstore, which also detected an update.

This is why I only take the FAotD from Amazon and buy all my apps (and free apps) through Google.

Well, finndo, that's a perfectly reasonable and we'll though out explanation. But I downloaded and installed GO Launcher EX from Google... I even updated GO a few days ago, too.

Hmm, now all I'm really wondering is why GO would try getting me to update Amazon's apps...

All true too, or at least it was last year when it happened. Really pissed me off as almost everything on my tablet was from Amazon...

Still weird though... Sorry it did not apply to your situation.

Lite. Go launcher has a feature that checks for updates of your apps and places a little arrow by them in the app drawer to let you know when that particular app has an update. I have notice that this feature has bugs though and when you go to the app store that it doesn't show the update. It's nothing to be paranoid about though.

I use Go Launcher. Been using it for a long time on OG Droid, Droid X, Nook Color, and now on my Spectrum. I noticed this same thing, but I think it is based on a newer version. If you go to the app drawer, you will notice the three dots at the bottom right corner of the screen. Touch them and you'll see a menu. The last option is "App Manager". It shows if an app needs an update. The second to last option is "Setting". You can go there an uncheck the "App update info" option to eliminate this.

This was added on v2.86. See here (Item 3): GO Launcher v2.86 | GO Launcher | GO?? GO Launcher v2.86 | Offical blog of GO Launcher

The new v3.0 came out on May 5.
