Help Going bonkers trying to root Kindle Fire HD

Just got a Kindle Fire HD version 11.3. Works pretty good, but I would like access to Google Play. I've got all of the aspects of the root working but when I get to the stage where it identifies the list of devices connected the Kindle does not appear. I created the 'Adb_USB.ini' file but it still doesn't recognize it.
Any advice?

Make sure you have your ADB drivers set up correctly. ADB, not USB composite.
