Good 3G for this phone, good 3G for next?

It seems I will be having to replace my Nexus One for another one, as this current one will not take the Update by any method (OTA or Manual)'

I would no of even realised I didn't get the update had I not realised that pinch zoom was not working. I have amazing 3G coverage everywhere.

Do I run a risk by getting a replacement of getting a phone that has the 3g issues or is my great coverage a sign of me living in a good part of the country that has strong T Mobile signals?

Please help, I am wraaaacking my brain trying to figure out if I should replace or not.
