On blackberry messenger there is a little d for delivered that changes to a r for when the message is read. I believe the op is looking for something that tells him when his message is read by the other person. I noticed gtalk does not have this.
i don't think it's gonna happen. that was a feature specific to Blackberry Messenger and was able to be done because it was through two specific devices. No other smart phone has a system of identifying the phone specifically like the PIN.
