Help good reception and battery Android

I have a galaxy s4 and my wife a mini s4. She gets a good reception on her phone in areas where I can't. Swapping SIM cards proves its the phone.
I'm thinking of changing phone to one with a good reception and battery life. Any recommendations? I have heard that the Motorola is good. What about the Samsung notes?

In my opinion, I do not know whether other brands are better but I think Samsung Galaxy Note 2 or 3 are quite good in terms of battery and reception as I own them and it works fine. But warning: I don't think you should root your phone at all if you usually do. I rooted my Note 2 and I have been thinking maybe it's one of the reasons it will not charge at ALL. But sometimes it will but until 100% to 0% it won't charge again. Again, I do not know whether other phones are better but this is just my opinion that the note series is pretty good.

Rooting installs one binary library and one apk that don't run unless another app asks for root access.

It ought never affect battery life on its own.

Something else is amiss there.

Btw - HTC One M8, great battery life and reception.
